Guest posting works as a long-term traffic getting strategy, particularly if you can secure a regular gig on another, more popular blog, but guest posting isn’t just about writing something that would fit on your blog and then sending it to another blogger for publication. Nope, it’s much more complex than that.
To help you become a better guest poster, I’ve defined 5 key things that you need to do in order to be the best guest poster that you can be.
1. As the blogger What They’d Like You to Write About
I know it seems slightly obvious, but if it is then why do so few people do this? When you’re guest posting, you aren’t writing for your own blog, but for another blog audience, which means you have to find a suitable topic that isn’t too far from what they’re used to reading.
2. Study the Nuances of that Audience
Some bloggers like to close blog posts with questions, while others like to be controversial. Study the nuances of the blogs you’ll be guest posting on and learn what works well and what doesn’t. Do you need to write list posts, include a series of images and/or screen-shots, or write 1500 words? If so, then do it. These nuances are subtle, but can be learned by reading archives and studying user engagement. It’s not easy, but…
It’s the Smart Thing To Do !
3. Read the Archives
Yes, you need to read through the archives of blogs so that you can not only learn the nuances of the audience and the blogger writing the content, but so that you can get a feel for the story behind the blog, and include a bit of that story in your guest posts. You are much more likely to have a guest post accepted if you’ve done your homework, as it will be evident in your writing, and will help you shine through.
4. Respond to Comments
This isn’t a must, but it makes a big difference and helps solidify your reputation as a good guest blogger. You should be honored for the opportunity to guest post on another blog, and though your guest post is part of repaying that honor, the rest happens when you spend time to engage and respond to the audience that’s read your post. This is also a perfect time to get them over to your blog, and it’s a free podium for you to speak from.
Why Would You Pass that up ?
5. Follow Up
After your post has been published, and you’ve responded to comments, send an email thanking the blogger for the opportunity. This sort of professional behavior will separate you even further from the rest of the pack, and should make you a shoe in for frequent guest slots.
I hope you enjoyed these tips, let me know if you’ve tried them and how they worked for you.

Bad Blogger,
This is a VERY good post on guest posting. Very good for even advanced guest post authors. I almost equate this with “getting into the groove” or “getting in sinc” with the site you’re posting for. (Of course while adding your touch). I especially like looking into the archives – good idea.

Hey Bryan, thanks for coming by my blog, I really appreciate it, and yes looking into the archives not only can help you get to know what sort of post the blog wanted it actually also give you some ideal what sort of post really will give you the advantage over most of other post or guest poster…
DOH! Follow-up. lol I recently wrote a guest post for a natural parenting blog, and while I was really irritated that they didn’t even tell me when they posted it, I was excited when I saw it up. No comments as of yet, so nothing to reply to, but it hadn’t even occurred to me to send a follow-up thank you.
I’ll definitely do that! I’d like to be posted there again.

Actually the follow up method ideal was from one of the letter I learn from great Gary Halbert. It’s actually use in direct marketing world, for example you buy a sample and the sample was send to you but after a few days you got a thank you letter from the seller thanking you to try out the sample, and this give the buyer a feeling you care about him or her… so I though if someone take the time to actually comment on my guest post then I should actually take the time to email him personally, I mean is not like you have to email thousands of people…
I follow your tips and hence I think I am a good guest poster! Thanks bad blogger!!

some of my blogs have good PR but since i dont get time , i dont keep them updated . i guess promoting them and giving away good links to guest posters can make it more active and i can earn something out of it .

Giving away good links, do you mean like exchange links, can you explain to me what you mean by “giving away good links to guest posters”?
blosg like QOT and run completely by guest bloggers and have PR 6 … thats big . the guy P Cherain does a good job to maintain quality and relativeness in the guest post . he also promotes his blog via adwords

Yes, I just went to the blog and is huge and thanks for your recommendation I know can add this blog to my list of blogs I can read often…
I have never try promoting my blog on adwords, but I’m still thinking if QOT promotes on every single niches he talks about in adwords, if so… it’s going to cost him that’s for sure…
It comes down to being very active on a blog, and once they notice your foot steps..then they will give you a Little open door to get guest post accepted..
