I call myself the Bad Blogger, and for good reason. Have you noticed how using dirty and divisive words works for companies like news agencies, trying to keep you watching the 10PM news, or reality shows, trying to hook you on the drama? The fact is that people love to watch and read things that aren’t good for them, and better yet, they love drama. So if they love it so much, then let’s talk about 7 great headline-specific words that…
Bring On the Drama in
Bountiful Proportions !
1. Sex
Admit it. You can’t help but want to read it. This is why they put Cosmo on the shelves in the checkout aisle. We’re sexually driven people, and any time you use sex is a sure way to…
Improve Your Headline CTR’s !
2. Deadly
You hear this and the adventurer in you can’t resist. We all love danger, and seeing this word invokes a natural adrenaline response. Use deadly when you want to talk about something so good it could kill you, such as in this case:
3. Sin
You’ve heard of the 7 deadly sins, which have been rehashed in movies and blog posts so many times that you’d think people would stop paying attention. But they don’t. Most people hear the word sin and immediately want to hear more. We’re curious to a fault, and this one is sure to get even the most conservative readers…
Peeking Behind the Curtain !
4. Sneaky
Another favorite of mine is sneaky, which invokes a behind closed doors or under the covers type of feeling. Sneaky implies danger, but…
That’s Part of the Fun !
5. Dangerous
If you tell me something is dangerous, then I’m bound and determined to try and master it. This is especially true of those that live on the edge or have a wild side. If that’s you, then you know exactly…
What I’m Talking About !
6. Nasty
I have a lot of fun with this one because anytime you place it next to even the most pure word, it degrades it into something that sounds ornery, especially if you use it in combination with another headline hack.
For example:
“Blog Design Tricks – How to Get Nasty with Your Blog”
“5 Nasty Ways to Improve Your Conversions”
“The Nasty Way to Make Bank That No One Talks About”
I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but…

7. Trick
People love tricks, especially if we can pull them off on others. Tricks are a hack, and they represent a shortcut, which is why they work so well on sales pages. If you want to teach something, using words like trick and hack are…

I’ve noticed this myself, it certainly seems that people are searching for certain words, but the question arises, “Are they the right type of people you want to your blog?”

What about the worst one of all being the word/tag “money”. How overused do you think this one is?

Money is just a simple word, I mean although it can get attention but the problem is without killer words like Nasty or Sneaky at the front to support the word “money” the word “money” alone won’t get the second chance…
The word “sex” is number 1! Everyone gets curious, you know.

Well actually using “bad words” in the blog title doesn’t mean the content is bad, it is use to get attention as people always reads the title before the main content, so hope you understand “bad word” had nothing to do with content itself.
Lovely post now I am thinking my next giveaway would be something like a deadly giveaway lolz really interesting post and true indeed

Hi Wong,
Tips are awesome to write an attractive title. But I have a bad experience to share that in start of my blogging career, I made a blog on a free platform having word “Tricks” in URL and it was deleted by the service provider after some time and I lost all the work, I have done over it.

Well… that’s why you should use a hosted server rather then a new one, it is not about using the word “trick” that crush you hard work is all about the rules that you need to follow using a free platform, that is why I usually recommend people to have their own self-hosted site rather then a free one…
Lol thumbup for 1st sex title and I always ready to check such content without any hesitation

Oh dear. What a dirty mind I have! For a moment, when I read this blog post title, the first thing I thought of was George Carlin’s list of “Words You Can’t Say on TV.”
I blush. =)
I love this list, though! And you’re right; they’re provocative and reach right out and grab you.

Thanks for reading my post and enjoying at the same time, talk soon…
Wow! Those are definitely bad words! But honestly, these words never fail to attract me to read the blog that contain them! Maybe there’s a psychological explanation on that (which I guess I have to research about). Nonetheless, I have to bookmark this page first and share to my colleagues. Thanks a lot!

Yes, there is a psychological explanation, although I do not know much about it, but those words are just plain eye catching…
Wow! Such cool ideas out there plus the sample headlines you mentioned. Speaking of headline or taglines, yours definitely and without a doubt attract so many readers. And as I’ve seen with your posts, they got heaps of comments. Your blog sure is a hit. Your ideas are good! I’ll wait for new updates!

OK. I’m not sure that I will use the first one in my blogs. But the rest, really sound attractive. I’ve never used anyone like that, even never thought of it. But as now I’ve started working on many things and one of them is to get a mysterious and interesting article title. So, I’ll try to use all the words you suggested in this and the post in which I commented, last. Another useful article, Wong. Thanks for sharing.
