Have you ever found yourself typing a curse word into a post, only to feel guilty, go back and edit it out? In the past, I used to be afraid to swear or cause controversy because I thought it would alienate people, but these days, if you’ve read my blog, you’ll know…
I Give a Big Middle Finger
to that Sentiment !
Why? Because if you aren’t pouring yourself out onto the page, swear words and all, then you aren’t being you, and no one wants to read a bunch of shit from a second rate copy of you. Better yet, when used effectively, swearing can stop a reader in their tracks and get them to…
Read Anything
You Have to Say !
So here are my seven favorite swear words for getting readers’ attention:
1. Suck
Suck really isn’t a swear word, but it is connected with negative emotion, and is a great test for your audience. If they don’t respond well to “suck”, well you better break out the edit machine and start going clean, but if not, then you’re all systems go to…

Just a Bit More !
2. Dumb
Dumb isn’t just negative, it’s also insulting. This one can be fun to stir a bit of emotion and get people talking in the comment section. But remember…
Just Don’t Call
Your Readers Dumb !
3. Piss Off
Telling someone to piss off in a blogging headline, or in any place for that matter, is a surefire way to get a rise out of them. It’s the sort of word that a comment troll will use to tear a blog’s comment section to pieces, and it can work in your headlines if you use it in jest, but with…
A Bit of Style !
4. Bullshit
People aren’t used to seeing bullshit in blog posts, let alone headlines, so I guarantee that when you bust this one out, jaws are going to drop and people will rush to read it, even if…
They Won’t Admit it !
5. Bad Ass
Who doesn’t want to be a bad ass? Anytime you use this phrase, especially if you are teaching something that is bad ass, or teaching people to become a bad ass, then you’re going to have a hit on your hands. Just make sure to back it up with…
Great Content !
6. Bitching
Wow, this one really gets people heated up! If you accuse someone or something of bitching, you’re using what they call “fightin’ words,” and you’re sure to piss some people off. If you ask me…
That’s the Beauty of it !
Alternatively, if you call something bitching, such as a bitching headline, then you’re one upping bad ass, and that’s…
Hard to Do !
7. Fucked Up

Yes, the holy grail of curse words. Can you imagine this headline?
“7 Fucked Up Ways to Get More Traffic”
Who wouldn’t want to read that? I can’t wait to read it, and I haven’t even written it yet
So that’s it, what do you think? Who has the courage to put these into action?

By far Wong you have turned out to be one of my favorite bloggers. I loved the title, “7 Fucked Up Ways to Get More Traffic” I thought to myself wow that would get tons of traffic but how many social book marketing websites would allow it?
I don’t think I’ve ever swore on any of my blog articles because I don’t think it’s proper and like in real life swearing is not cool. In fact I think it makes one look less intelligent.

Though swearing is not a cool thing to write or talk about but you can do it in another way, and that is do it in style. Yes, there won’t be much social bookmarking site that allows that title, but let me ask what is the first feeling you got when you read this post title?
Does you feel curious and interested to know what is is all about?
Believe me, if I ever write the title “7 Fucked Up Ways to Get More Traffic” you will be surprise that not only you will read it but even share it, and believe it or not, those social media bookmarking site owner although didn’t like but in fact they are reading it… in spite of the less intelligent title that just piss the hell of most of the social bookmarking website.

Well… may be it’s time to see the reaction… I mean you need to test but test it small… using words such as “bullshit” and not “fuck up”… at least “bullshit” is not that emotional then “fuck up”

Hi Wong,
I think not many bloggers use swear words for their headlines but agreed these are really easy way to attract people to read your blog post. Finally it’s content that gonna force your reader to stay longer and be a regular reader on your blog.

Yes, you are absolutely right content is very important but you must pass the headline before anything because if you have the most powerful content in the world but your headline line “suck” … you will lose the game in the end…

Hi Wong, what a great coincidence! I had ‘I use swear words” as a chapter title in my book which I’m writing (halfway).
The world has had enough of these fence sitters. We would have progressed much ahead, and poverty would have been swiped off the planet and there wouldn’t be any need for faking in this world … if we let each one of us be “ourselves”.
I see colossal waste of human power and resources because of not being able to be ourselves.
Ah… swear words, help fight the devil on a day to day basis. Good Post!
In fact, you gave me lot of confidence to go ahead with the title of my chapter.
Cheers

Hi Wong,
Thanks for the kind words! I’m writing a book Titled: “I’m me. Myself.”
.
?
It’s a kind of ‘personal branding’ book with lot of experiences of mine. The essence is to be ourselves- no matter what others think of us. Just like your blog’s positioning ha ha
It saves us precious peace of mind we lose over thinking about others. Could you pls. suggest me a good person who can design my blog like yours
Keep writing your heart out…and never edit it for the sakes of applause!
Cheers
Solomon
I want to ask you: Is the ‘title good? I’m a copywriter and I write in my little blog: http://www.creativesolomon.blogspot.com/. You’re welcome to read there and place your comments.
Congratulations for a great blog and great write ups!

To be honest, I won’t opt for the title “I’m Me. Myself” because no one wants to read about someone’s life unless that someone is famous, so the best title you can give is something that’s going to “shock,” if you are talking about your experience in copywriting, then I will opt a title for example: The Road to 100 customers in 6 Months!
Well, that was just an example, because when people see a figure or numbers that is shocking, it will make them curious and curious is what make people open their wallet to get it.
Hope you understand, what I’m trying illustrate. And one more advice is… the cover of the book should be unique…
If you want a nice blog design, my best option for you is to take your blog a step forward in using self-hosted wordpress.
Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger recently posted..Top 4 Blogging Clichés That Just Have To Die!
Thanks for your advice. It is so so welcome. I wanted to take some opinion on that. Yes, as you said, the cover design should be unique. I pray that the whole writing process go smoothly. I have had my share of thoughts: who would read it and how do Iconnect to the readers and how will it be accepted etc, etc.
Writing is discovering a new you – and so is blogging.
Wong, where do I find the self-hosted wordpress ? Pls. do suggest a company or person who can do it.
Thanks once again

Well… if you do not know how to setup, the best advice is to get someone such as a freelance to do it, the best option is to go to “warrior forum” and go to “Warriors for Hire” section and look for freelance to help you to do it.
It’s usually less then range around $50 to $100 for setting up a self-hosted wordpress blog with plugin installed for you…

Thank you. It’s so sweet of you!

One thing that draws people’s attention instead of swearing, and you get more traffic is to use odd numbers in the title example, 13 short cut junipers, winning 17 titles, ect.

Hey Wong! That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Keeping it real is a sure fire way to get readers attention, and their interest. I think you can pretty much get away with using some swear words as long you throw in a bit of humor in your post so it does not sound so negative. You will definitely be filtering out your conservative and wholesome audience. If your target are open minded readers who want the feeling of being conversed with by a blog rather than being lectured at, then writing the way you speak is a great way to attract such a crowd. Quality content need not be wholesome.

Swearing is such powerful tools. This will be my MA thesis if I ever get my act together to actually write it.
Everybody is doing it and it’s considered to be acting out. However, acting out gets people’s attention. If you are smart, you can use that attention wisely. Like getting me to read this post
