There’s nothing worse than coming to a blog and being bombarded with blinking banners, links, ads and other things that do nothing but distract you. When you run a blog, what you actually say in your posts should be at the center of the stage. What’s more, Your blog design should help your readers to do…

What You Want Them to Do !

Here are 5 core principles to make sure you have an effective blog design:

1. Clean and Easy On the Eyes

The first thing to remember is the cleaner your blog looks, the more professional it feels and being professional evokes trust. Trust in a long term will cause people to spend money on your recommendation without…

You Ever Having to
Even Ask for it !

2. Not Too Many Things Going On

Having too many things happening on the blog will confuse your readers. They won’t know where to look what they came for and eventually…

They Will Leave Faster
Than They Come !

3. It’s All About the Content

Remember that the people came over to your blog because they have some very specific problems to solve. If you help them solve the problem, they’ll come back for more, if not…

They’ll Find Other Blogs
to Hang Out !

Now, do ads solve people’s problems? No. Flash animations? Not really. How about excessive pop-ups? Nope. It’s what you have to say, your expert advice, combined with their actions that’s going to improve their lives. This is marketing 101, but you really do have to keep that in mind when you design your blog or…

You’re Going to Scare
Your Readers Off !

4. What Do You Want Your Visitors to Do?

When I write content for my blog, I always ask myself the following two questions:

  • How do I want the reader to feel after reading this? And…
  • What do I want the reader to do when he’s done going through the post?

That’s all you have to know when you write. When you answer these two questions, you need to make a quick plan of how you’re going to get there. That plan has to include design. For example, if a reader finish reading your content, and wanted to sign up for your update, where should they go or where should they sign up, and if you had a clean design, eventually…

They Will Know
Where !

5. Let the Pros Do it for You

I remember when I first started blogging online, I’d do everything myself. I was pretty much forced to run a one-man show, because…

I Didn’t Have Much Money
to Outsource !

You, as a blog owner, don’t have to know all there’s to know about how to custom code your WordPress blog or even how to customize the graphics on it. There are companies and individuals that specialize in design, and nine times out of ten, they’ll do a much better job, in a much shorter time, than you ever will…

After Spending a Week
Tweaking Things Around !

That’s just how it is, so let the pros worry about your design, while you focus on your marketing. Good content sucks people in. Good design will lead people’s eyes to where you want them to look. If you do it right, you’ll increase your conversions significantly, just by tweaking some of your graphics.

Stay Effective,

Great content is what costumers or readers might look first. Simplicity on design might help them to know that you have done to make your site more attractive!

Yes, I agree content is what they are looking for, a site design is to enhance the experience of the reader or to make it memorable.

Blog design always matters. Being able to provide your readers an easy to read blog with great contents and without too much promotions should be your priority in how your site look. I totally agree that content is the very reason why a visitor visits your blog and you will lose their respect if they find too much money making in you site and lacks content.

Yes, content is important, so do design. I once went to a blog that on my first look, it’s really ugly, but when started to read the content it’s just awesome, but then the design of the blog just make me sick, so it’s best to have good content and a well develop and clean design for better eye view.

Hi Wong

Definately agree with point 2, to not have too many things going on, if I come across ablog that is too busy or confusing then there’s a good chance I’ll click away. I tend to think that ‘less is more’ when it comes to a website layout, that way you can convey your message more clearly.

Blog design is always useful to make the user stay on your blog. You might get the visitor from a search engine, but the moment they see a awkward design and user unfriendly environment, they prefer to leave the blog. So it was really nice going through the post. Thanks for sharing.

I totally agree. Some people think that the more stuff they advertise on their website, the more pop ups they have to persuade you, the more they will sell.
But if you deliver quality and keep it clean then the readers will be much more likely to do what you want them to do.

Well, I think the less the better as you can focus more on certain item you did like to sell rather a whole bunch of it, I still prefer clean and of course quality :)
