8 Ways to End a Blog Post I Thought Of While Laying in a Hospital Bed!

Thumbnail image for 8 Ways to End a Blog Post I Thought Of While Laying in a Hospital Bed!

I came across these when I was laying in a hospital bed, unable to move after a funny accident. You see, what happened is I stepped on an insect and it bit me (which I don’t blame it for.) I, obviously, though it’s not a big deal, but when, after a few days, the foot started swelling up and…

I Decided to
Go See a Doctor !

He told me that the blood inside the bump is infected and that he’s going to have to let it out, so there I was, laying in a hospital bed, trying not to use that leg too much, thinking about blogging, and I came up with 8 ways to…

End Your Blog Posts !

I mean, it’s not enough to just say “peace out” and leave, is it? Especially if you want your writing to be effective and profitable for you. Good blogging is like copywriting. You have to incorporate strategies and tactics that will cause people to know, like and trust you, which will then result in them buying from you. So…

How Do You
End Your Blog Posts ?

1. Summarize Your Blog Post in a Few Words

This is a very well known, proven and well respected way to conclude any type of writing. It’s the final part of a three step strategy that looks like this:

1. In the intro to your blog post, you tell your readers what you’re going to tell them, then…

2. You tell them, and lastly, in the conclusion…

3. You tell them what you just told them.

So, to end your blog posts like a pro, just summarize everything you talked about…

In a Few Words !

2. Encourage People to Share Your Blog Post

If you know you had provided some good quality information and you realize many people would benefit from it, go ahead and ask your readers to share what you wrote with their friends or network. This can be done either through social networking buttons you have under your blog post or above your blog post (if you added them) or just by pasting the link to the blog post into an email and…

Sending it Off !

3. Refer Them to Other Pages On Your Blog

Before you say “bye” to your readers, go ahead and recommend something else they could read on your blog. Obviously, it’s best if the posts you refer them to are related to what you just talked about, so that they don’t get distracted, but that’s easy if you have a focused blog with…

Lots of Good Content On it !

4. Give Your Visitors a Hint of Upcoming Blog Posts

Nothing works better, when trying to get people curious about what’s coming, than a little teaser. If you have your content planned out well and you know what you’re going to be writing about the next time you sit down at your keyboard, go ahead and…

Present Some Benefits of
Future Blog Post
in Your Conclusion !

This will keep the readers at the edge of their seats and when you actually publish the content you teased about…

They’ll Be Very Excited to
Come and Look At it !

5. Ask a Good Question

Nothing is more depressing than a dead blog where no one posts any comments under posts. If you’d like to encourage your readers to talk to you, or even to each other, ask them a question that’s closely related to what they just read. This will encourage them to share feelings, opinions and ideas and…

That’s Exactly
What You Want !

6. Promote Your Product Or Service

Obviously, most of you are in the blogging game to make money and lots of it. If you want people to buy from you, no matter what you have, you need to tell them that it’s available. That’s why it’s a great idea to promote an offer of yours at the end of your blog posts. Again, the key here is…

Relevance !

You need to make sure that what you have to offer is closely related to your market and…

Answers
Their Questions Well !

7. Get Them To Sign Up to a Newsletter

Your list is what will make you money. The bigger and more responsive it is, the more money you’re going to make, so, when you finished writing to your readers about something, go ahead and drop a sign up form for your newsletter, including a short and snappy call to action telling them…

Why They Should Sign Up !

8. Give Your Readers a Challenge

When you challenge people, you help them to become better. You cause them to take action on what you told them and improve their lives. Don’t be afraid to challenge your readers in your writing. When you do that, they’ll do what you tell them to do and love you for causing them to succeed. For this to work, however, you need to…

Follow Up With Them !

Without a good follow up every now and again, asking people to do anything will not work. Why? Because people forget, get lazy, lose focus, lose vision or get distracted, and if you don’t follow up with them, they’ll forget what they’re supposed to do…

Quicker then
You Think !

So, there you have it. Now you know exactly how to end your blog posts to get the best results. What I’d do if I were you is test each one of them and see which one works best for your market. This way you’ll be able to quickly find the winner. But before you go off testing, though, do you know any other great ways to end a blog post?

Ending a blog post with some recommonded links is something very familiar these days. Everyone is using some or other plugins which recommend some suggested posts to the visitors.
Second one being “Hint of the upcoming blog posts” , well, it might just seem a bit unusual. Because you might not be sure always about what you are going to post the next day. It might be you who knows it, but me, being a hot to blogger, i need to research a topic , finalize it and then post it. So it might not be that easy for me to give some hints of the posts which have not been published yet.
The best idea i got was Asking a question. That is actually interesting and if a reader is reading full post of yours then he/she would surely read that question and answer it in the comments, giving you a more committed visitor and longer stay on the website.

Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles. Having gone through my fair share of severe insect bites, I can feel your pain. But on the bright side, it inspired you to write this post! Those are all very good ways that you have listed to end posts. I think alternating between a combination of two or three of those for each post is a good way to go about it.

Wow… Wow… Wow… better not combine two or three in one post, because from what I had learn from marketing point of view… you should use one method for one post because you cannot give to much option as too much will make your prospect think too much… which is something we do not want, so it’s best to use one method for one post :)

Aha, that is a good point. I was only thinking like, maybe combining promoting your product and giving them a challenge in the same closing sentence but then again, you’re right. It will make them think too much.

Hi Wong,
To finish an article with asks, “What do you think” can be a very good way to get the reader to write a comment or his viewpoint and he will certainly comming back to read others’ comments within a few days.

Well, I don’t think creative is going to be a good way to get articles being shared, I still believe quality more… but still being creative is not something of bad, but something of a new approach, but I would rather use something that’s already succeed over something creative :)

Awesome article!, and can’t really get over the images on the article! :)

Anyways, the ending is so important just because the reader has read and probably forgotten a lot of what you read. Maybe to some, this doesn’t happen. I remember that humans can retain only 10% of what they read and heard. Pretty amazing.

Encouraging the reader to share is the classic and best thing to do at the end.

Well… at least the pictures got your attention, if not… I don’t think you will ever notice this content at all, but anyway… you are right by saying humans can retain a certain amount of what they read, but though I’m not sure if it’s 10% but I once heard a speaker said… it takes only 5 years to read and study a topic to become an expert in that topic.
And yes… encouraging reader to share… is not just classic but the best you can get from the reader itself :)

I’ll see what I can do about it so thanks for the reminder.

Anyway… it will be better to keep a list of ways from this post and stick it near your computer, so that whenever you finish your content… you can refer to the list and see how you are going to end, that will be a better way to remember it :)

These are all great blogging tips. It can be to easy to just sign off and leave your readers to just go on to visit another blog or check their e-mail, or whatever and forget that they even read your post in the first place.

A call to action of some kind is important to really engage the reader.

I will implement these tips into my daily blogging activities.

Thanks for the tips and sorry to hear about your hospital visit.

Take care,
