How to Set Up Your Own Self-Hosted WordPress Blog In Just Minutes From Now !

In this post, I’ll show you a step by step process you can use to set up a self-hosted WordPress blog in just a few minutes from now.

Having a blog you host on your own domain will give you more control, customization options and power over what happens with your site.

Now, I am going to assume that you’ve already purchased a domain using your favorite registrar. I personally use NameCheap for all my domains and I highly recommend them.

So, once your domain is in your account, what you’ll need to do is update the name servers on it, which pretty much means that you tell the registrar where the contents that will be accessible through that domain will be hosted.

It sounds fancy, but it really is a…

Super Quick Process !

To go through it, all you need to do is log in to your registrar’s account (again, in my case it’s “NameCheap”) and hover over to “My Account” over to the right. When you do that, a drop down will show up, and you need to click “Manage Domains”:

After that, you’ll be taken to a list of all of your domains on this account, and you’ll need to click the name of the domain you want to install your WordPress on.

Easy ?

When that’s done, on the left hand side you’ll find a list of links, and you will need to click where it says “Transfer DNS to Web Host”:

When you do that, you’ll be taken to a page where you’ll need to put in the name servers provided by your hosting company.

For Bluehost, which is what I use, the name servers are:

  • ns1.bluehost.com
  • ns2.bluehost.com

They might be different for you, though, so go ahead and contact your hosting company and ask them to provide you with the correct name servers before you do this step:

Now you’re ready to save changes and move on…

The next step is logging into your hosting account (again, in my case it’s Bluehost) go to your CPanel, scroll down a little until you see the “Addon Domains” icon:

Go ahead and click that, and you’ll be taken to a screen where you’ll need to type in your new domain name into a field and save the changes.

When everything is saved, you’ll need to go back to your CPanel, and this time, look for a little “WordPress” icon:

After you click that, you’ll be taken to a drop down menu that will contain all of your domains on that account. Go ahead and select the new one you just set up, scroll down and hit the “green Install button“.

You’ll need to check the little box that will ask you to agree to the terms and conditions (usual legal stuff) and “click complete.”

On the next page, you’ll be given access links and login details for your newly established blog.

Just click the provided Login URL, type in the Username and Password, and you’re in!

Of course, after you first login, you can change your password to something you like.

That’s it !

You can start having some great fun and posting.

Very Easy,
Very Simple and
Very efficient !
Enjoy!

Stay Frosty,

You’re welcome.

But I got this really weird email from someone called “Chandon Wong” or something, telling me that I had to set up my gravatar. So I did that, and then I get an email from you!

So who is who?

Anyway, glad to read you’ve changed the password!
