Blogging contests are awesome, and there are quite a few reasons for that. Let me list just a few over here, so that you know exactly what I am talking about, OK?
1. Everyone’s Doing it
This is the very first thing that makes me want to get into competitions. You see, working at home is incredibly lucrative, it gives you the freedom of being able to do what you want, when you want to do it, your online business gives you the ability to be completely independent and it makes it so that you don’t have a boss looking over your shoulder and…
Stressing You Out !
There’s just one thing, though. Working online is a terribly lonely activity. I mean, when you blog, for example, it’s just you and your website, and that’s why getting into something that you know other people are involved in is so…
Beneficial !
It kind of proves to you that you’re not the only person doing this thing, if you know what I mean.
2. It Gives You a Challenge
Whenever you take part in any kind of competition, it doesn’t matter if it’s swimming, go-carting, free diving or blogging, the fact that you’re involved in it…
Makes You
Want to Win !
It gives you that adrenaline rush, that push to do the very best you can.
3. Don’t Forget About the Prizes
Depending on how much money you make blogging, the prizes will be more or less important to you. I mean, if you take part in a competition, and you know that if you win, you’ll get an IPad 2, for instance, you will either get stoked, especially if you really wanted a tablet and can’t afford it, or…you’ll say… “well, I’ll just buy one,” if…
You Have Money for it !
Let me tell you something though. Even though you do compete for a prize, and even though you do want that IPad, it’s not really about the IPad. It’s about the fact that you got something cool for free because this shows…
You’re Good At
What You’re Doing !
It’s all about the “I am the best factor.”
4. Then There’s the Recognition…
What do you think would happen if you took part in a nation wide blogging contest, and won it? Exactly. People in the community would know about you. They’d talk about you. You’d become…
A Blogging
Super Star !
Now, even though this kind of stardom is not of the same caliber that Hollywood actors and top pop singers enjoy, but it’s still…
An Amazing Feeling !
5. And the Traffic, of Course
Again, do you think that winning an important blogging competition would get you some cool traffic? Of course it would. Heck, if the event is big enough, your site might even be featured…
On the News Or
in a Newspaper !
See what I mean? There are a ton of reasons why Blogging competitions are really cool. I’ve listed a few, and there are still more. The best way to find out, really is by taking part in one, so…

Competition is always a good way to get motivated. As you said, besides the increased output from competing, you also get the occasional win which only helps reinforce your effort.

Yes, ur right it helps to reinforce our effort and by going forward to take up the challenge means you are getting a breakthrough to a higher level.
I typically don’t get involved in them as I enjoy seeing others win, but who knows maybe in the near future.

Hopefully will see you on the competing list in the near future…
You rather see others win than yourself?
What a noble way of thinking.
But I don’t think that people will appreciate what they can’t see.
I think it would be even more noble if you apply pressure to the other contestants to perform better by having to compete with you.

Strongly agree with the point #2… If others can do it then why can’t I ?

Hi Wong,
Man’s natural competitive instinct and adrenaline makes us want to win in all kinds of competitions. Your 5 reasons are quite right to create competitions.

Thanks and hope you can join the contest too…
This is more an advice for bloggers -they should approach sites on their vertical and ask them to provide the prizes for the competition in exchange for the mention on the blog!

What do you mean by “approach sites on their vertical and ask them to provide the prizes for the competition in exchange for the mention on the blog!” Can explain in details?
Let’s say you write about Florida holidays, why don’t you approach some restaurants in Florida, ask for ‘dinner for two’ and you run the competition?
In your case, how about approaching some magazines, and ask them for an annual subscription in return for a blog post?

That’s a nice idea, but I don’t think I had the abilities to approach magazine stuff, most probably if I will… I will approach bloggers for ad space or review in return a blog post, but again I’m not really into running a contest but rather joining one…
This Blog Engage contest is definitely worth a shot, for all the reasons you mentioned! What I find especially appealing about this particular contest is the fact that it’s extremely interesting for bloggers and publishers alike.
I’m one of the Business Sponsors myself and I think the way sponsors and contestants are connected is just brilliant. Hats off to Brian for coming up with this stuff
Good luck with the competition mate, I already voted and shared!

Thanks for the vote and share… well, Brain really took it off, but although it’s a great way to engage, but there is always a bad side about it, and what I mean is… nothing is perfect and this sort of monthly contest is not an event but a process, of how business can be build by engaging and competing with one another around the blogging sphere….
How is that a bad thing?

Look, if you did read the comment at Blog Engage site about the contest, you will see some people, I mean some negative people, thinks this is just another promotional contest promoting sponsor like us…. Well… this is what happen when negative people comes in an speak all kinds of shit, but to me… whatever contest it is… the most important part is to think positive and make it enjoyable rather then some negative people who’s mind are totally suck up because they know they can’t win the contest…
Ah, I see what you mean, but I don’t really think it’s much of a problem.
As this contest (and Blog Engage itself) grows and grows, everyone will see its value. It doesn’t matter if you’re a publisher, sponsor or contributing blogger, you’re all in it for the same reason: exposure, backlinks and – perhaps most important – fun
Ok, You convinced me.
I will join one soon.
Maybe at BlogEngage.

Joining a certain blogging contest is beneficial, aside from you can win money, you can also meet and knew other unique people and of course you learn something that you haven’t yet known.
