How to Get What You Want With What You Have in Blogging?

Thumbnail image for How to Get What You Want With What You Have in Blogging?

The problem with blogging, is that most bloggers fail to treat their blog as part of a business model. They either try and fail to duplicate the traditional publishing model (Mashable, Techcrunch, Huffington Post), or fail to connect the dots between their blog and the way…

Traditional Businesses
Are Created !

Case in point, bloggers love to bootstrap, which is great, but it also poses a potential problem, which is that when you get in the habit of getting everything on the cheap…

You Might End Up
With a Cheap Blog !

Early on, things like hosting can be cheap, as can design and content, but as you grow, it’s important to find ways to invest in your blog as if it were a business or product.  Microsoft wasn’t able to sell DOS to IBM without spending the 50k to buy it first, just as most bloggers will not be able to accelerate into the fast lane…

Without Similar Investments !

Great bloggers invest in great design, great content, and great products because that’s what a business owner does in order to build a business big enough…

To Pay the Bills !

So How Do You Get There ?

Well, bootstrapping is fine, but there comes a time when it’s time to grow up and start acting like a big boy. If you create a product and it happens to make a few dollars, take some of that money and invest it in your business. If you earn a bit of AdSense or ad revenue, take it and do more of…

What You Did to Earn it !

Niche bloggers understand this, as they pay for content until a blog makes money, and then use that new money to invest in the next site. It’s kind of like playing monopoly, and it works as long as you don’t bleed your business dry by…

Sucking Out
All of Your Revenue !

Do you think a McDonald’s owner can take every dollar earned to pay his bills? Nope, he has to buy new food, pay the employees, and pay for marketing. This is the same way that a blogger should treat their business. Pay yourself a salary if you must, but…

Do Not Suck
Your Blog Dry !

When You Don’t Have Any Income…

When you have nothing earned, you’re kind of stuck, but here’s the thing…if you aren’t making money, then something is broken. Customers don’t grow on trees, and neither does blog traffic. I’m big on experimenting quick and failing fast. If your first blog isn’t working, try another one, but don’t linger too long with a failed business model. Remember…

Blog Comments
Will Not Feed You !

In the end, getting everything you want to out of blogging means you have to shift your mindset into that of a business owner, and you have to be prepared to make sacrifices until…

Your Blog
Pays the Bills !

Well, you just hit all 3… hard work is probably the most important but working hard in a smart way, and passion is probably the second most important, without love of what you do, it’s almost like working 8 to 5 and finally without hard work and passion, we doesn’t even had to look at patience, so all three are just the mark for success. So how long have you been blogging and how’s your results?

I agree with you, treat it as a business. I see people in forums complaining about hosting costs…Hosting cost less than your cell pone.electric bill…most people probably spend more money in a convenient store than they spend on hosting. As Business expenses go blogging does not require a lot of money, just time.

Well, as I had said if they want cheap then whatever business they do is always cheap and no matter how they complain, their complain will always make them look cheap.

I do believe you have investing back into what you are doing, without doing so its very hard to make the appropriate progress to the next step. I find that businesses usually try to find the right ratio and balance between retaining the earnings, and investing the earnings.

I agree with you. If you want your blog to earn, treat it like any business. You’ve got to invest wisely, create innovative ideas/products, utilize all possible marketing tools, connect with consumers, etc. It sure is hardwork, perseverance and patience, but that’s how we succeed, don’t we?

Ya, but most important is to work hard in a smart way, that’s the real process for success, not working hard in a really hard way….

Great article. I agree with all the points you mentioned here. It should be really important for every blogger to treat their blog as a business, otherwise their blog would might end up as a cheap one.

Yes, everyone should treat them like a business and when I say business, it should not be cheap, I mean hosting and outsourcing is already cheaper then ever if anyone who wanted to start online still want to get all done free, then I have got nothing to say… seriously. And just wondering how long have you been blogging and how much have you invested in your blog?

Sathish | Make Money Online May 23, 2011 at 10:14 pm

I have been blogging for almost 11 months and I have invested around $1.5K on useful products like Premium plugins, Cloud Hosting, Premium WordPress theme and Professional design.

That’s nice, I had been blogging for about 2 to 3 years, and had only started investing on my blog 2 years ago and I had invested about almost 5k if I’m not wrong. Mostly on outsourcing.

Investment is very essential if you want to grow your business. If you’re not investing then you can’t grow. Think about future and start taking some risk only then you can succeed in your goal.

Blogging these days had leveled up. Creating blogs and using it to attract customers is great business asset. As they say there is money on blogs. Don’t waste your time investing in some unproductive things instead try to make your hands dirty and start lay outing your blogs.
